Peter Cazalet

Born in Zambia, Peter studied architecture at the University of Cape Town (where he also gained his ballet training).

After graduating he danced with Edinburgh International Ballet, London Festival Ballet and became a Principal at Western Theatre Ballet (later Scottish Ballet), where he remained for nine years, excelling in character roles and also designing several productions. Injury forced his retirement from dance; he then concentrated on design. On his return to South Africa in 1972, he began to design for the former performing arts councils and headed the CAPAB (now Artscape) Design Department for 18 years. His work includes numerous ballets, dramas, musicals and operas, and his distinguished career saw him work regularly in Britain, the USA, Germany, New Zealand, and Asia.

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we work and perform. Long before we performed on this land, it played host to the dance expression of our First Peoples. We pay our respects to their Elders — past, present and emerging — and acknowledge the valuable contribution they have made and continue to make to the cultural landscape of this country.
