#About The Little Mermaid
Mystical and magical, this fairytale has been loved for generations, passed down by storytellers and families since it was first published by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen in 1837.
Based on the original 1837 story - with a few magical twists and turns - Queensland Ballet’s The Little Mermaid is a delightful family adventure, following the much-loved tale of a young mermaid who falls deeply in love with a human prince and faces an impossible decision: a life on land or in the sea.
Created on the Queensland Ballet Jette Parker Young Artists, this new work by Paul Boyd is a world premiere at The Thomas Dixon Centre Talbot Theatre 22 June - 1 July 2023.

Zoe Griffiths (Costume Performance Manager and Associate Designer) has done a fantastic job with the costumes – they’re full of fantasy gone wild.
The Little Mermaid features three casts with nine dancers in each, however all 12 Young Artists play a part in each performance. The dancers have been willing to invest in their characters completely. I’ve loved the fact that they have invested in their dancing and in the character development.
“Each ballet company who creates a set of costumes for a new production will sew a label into the inside of each piece that says the company name, the year it was created, who the character is, and the dancer who will wear it. What we’re also doing for The Little Mermaid is adding a second label to say ‘this costume is generously supported by...’ along with the individual donors’ names."
