Zara Gomes

Director, Van Norton Li Community Health Institute

Zara is a senior physiotherapist with over 25 years experience working with elite dancers in companies in Australia and internationally, including Birmingham Royal Ballet, The Australian Ballet, Ballett Frankfurt and The Forsythe Company. She has worked in secondary and tertiary arts training institutions, toured overseas with dance companies, built and managed performance health teams, implemented injury prevention strategies and supported dance medicine and dance health research. Zara has worked with Queensland Ballet since 2011.

Zara has a lifelong passion for the arts and dance, and the enrichment they bring to participants, arts workers, audiences and communities. In her role as Director of the Institute, she is working to enable the health and wellbeing benefits of dance to reach all in our community, and to promote elite dancer performance health care initiatives.
